Infertility - Laparoscopic Cervical Cerclage

Symptoms

A 35 year old woman presented with primary infertility.

Diagnosis

She had undergone treatment for cervical cancer (two cone biopsies). The cervix was very short and at risk of dilating during a pregnancy leading to miscarriage.

Procedure

Thus a Laparoscopic Cervical Cerclage (mersilene tape) was inserted to re-inforce the cervix.

Outcome

She subsequently had a successful pregnancy (delivered by Casearean Section) following IVF.

The bladder is reflected from the front of the cervix.

The bladder has been reflected to allow for accurate placement of the cervical cerclage.

The cervical cerclage is placed on either side of the cervix.

The cervical cerclage is tied in front of the cervix.

The position of the cerclage at the back of the cervix.
