Uterine Fibroid - Myomectomy

Symptoms

A 41 year old woman presented with a long history of very heavy bleeding.

Diagnosis

A Pelvic Ultrasound revealed a 15cm dominant uterine fibroid.

Procedure

She subsequently underwent myomectomy - to preserve the uterus for a possible pregnancy later.

Laparoscopic view of a large fibroid uterus. There was limited access to the pelvic side walls and posterior uterus. The procedure was thus converted to open

View of the open procedure. The uterus and fibroid are exteriorised. The fibroid is shelled out of the uterus. The uterus is then reconstructed. The pathology revealed a benign fibroid.
