Adhesions - Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

Symptoms

A 50 year old woman presented 2 years after an open hysterectomy. She was experiencing pelvic pain.

Diagnosis

Laparoscopy revealed adhesions between the ovaries and bowel.

Procedure

These were divided and the ovaries and tubes removed.

Outcome

The pain resolved completely. Adhesions are common after open hysterectomy. One significant advantage of laparoscopic hysterectomy is less adhesion formation.
